Wheelhouse Creative’s John Blackmore — a family man and a man with a plan (for your business)
Growing up in Mt. Olivet in Marshall County, WV, gave Wheelhouse Creative account specialist John Blackmore a deep appreciation for the Ohio Valley.
“When someone needs help,” Blackmore says, “we’ve always been all in for them – regardless of what part of the Valley you’re from or where you grew up.”
His desire and willingness to help now extends to his work at Wheelhouse. He’s a jack-of-all trades who doubles as an account specialist and business strategist.
“A business strategist is a business’s secret weapon,” Blackmore says, “I’m a detective of sorts who tracks down information and then crafts winning game plans to attract customers, boost sales and make your business the talk of the town.”
Just check out his work with Undo’s restaurants as an example. He’s your bottom-line superhero, if you will, after gaining experience all over the Valley.
Now a resident of Bellaire, Ohio, where he wakes up at 5 a.m. in the middle of a dairy farm to the sound of milk trucks, John spent 15 years at WKKX and WVLY Radio. He served as the station’s general manager for 12 years and was also a daytime talk show host and play-by-play voice of multiple sports. He was also the traffic reporter on the WTRF-7 News Morning Show for three years.
In 1999, John joined the newly formed Ohio Valley Greyhounds/Smash and served as the GM from 2001-2004. During that time under his leadership the team won two National Championships. He was selected by his peers as the GM of the Year twice and sat on the Executive Board and served as Director of Expansion.
So, when a business comes to Wheelhouse, John is a man who knows what works to succeed. And here’s a little tip from him:
“OTT advertising is here and growing every quarter,” he said of the technology that delivers streamed content. “If you’re not on OTT now, your business is being left behind.”
And that’s just one weapon Wheelhouse uses to help businesses.
“Wheelhouse Creative isn’t your average ad agency,” Blackmore says. “We’re a powerhouse of diverse talent, each bringing fire and fresh perspectives to the table. Think bold ideas, strategic smarts, and a results-driven approach.
“Creativity simply crackles here.”
And when John gets home to Bellaire, he’s a family man. Married to Sheila Bates-Blackmore, the Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher for Marshall County Schools, they have two children in Jeremiah and Cecilia.
“My wife is my partner in crime,” Blackmore says proudly. “Our kids are now independent adults launching themselves into the world, but they still push us to grow. They keep us grounded and make us proud every day.”
