Billboard advertising — still effective after all these years
Billboard advertising has been a debatable strategy since the advent of computers and digital marketing.
Billboard ads aren’t sent to you. You must go to the ad.
Some would call it old school.
But is it still effective?
Well, billboards have come a long way since tobacco signs on barns in West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Travel around the Ohio Valley, for instance, and you’ll see digital billboards. Unlike static billboards, their LED screens light up and catch anyone’s attention with images and videos.
In bigger cities like Las Vegas, you can now find mind-blowing three-dimensional (3D) billboards. Go to premium locations in the U.S., Japan, Singapore, Chile and South Korea and you can find them.
Another form of billboard big in a location like Las Vegas is mobile billboards. They can be found on trucks, buses and cars. They take the message to you more than the static billboards.
But, again, are billboard ads effective?
According to Allie Decker of HubSpot, the answer is yes – even in the age of social media and online digital ads. She wrote they “have unique features that online ads can’t replace, like:
• Constant visibility. Unlike online digital ads that I can block or skip, billboards are always on display, making my message consistently visible to everyone who passes by.
• High reach. Billboards reach a large audience because they’re positioned in high-traffic areas.
• Impactful presence. Billboards’ sheer size and bold designs make them stand out in busy environments and create lasting impressions on viewers.
• Geographic targeting. I can choose prime locations that align with my target audience’s daily routes to maximize engagement. For example, “exit now for” messages near offramps to my stores.”
